Szczesny impressed during his time with Roma last season and slammed the Gunners on his return claiming he learned more in four months under manager Luciano Spalletti than in 10 years at Arsenal.

The writing has been on the wall for the 26-year-old ever since Petr Cech’s arrival dropped Szczesny to third choice between the sticks behind David Ospina.

Szczesny joined Arsenal as a youngster in 2006 making 132 first team appearances under Arsene Wenger but was caught in a number of controversies including smoking in the changing room showers following a 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

Whilst the Gunners are prepared to offload players, Wenger still seems reluctant to spend big having signed just young defender Rob Holding and midfielder Grant Xhaka.
