The 67-year-old has penned his last programme notes ahead of the game and claiming he leaves special group of people behind in North London.

Wenger said: “What I will miss most about this job is the competition itself.

“The collective feeling, the sharing of emotions with people you work with on a daily basis, the desire to feel something together and the target you always have in front of you.

“I will miss the intensity of it all, because that’s all I have known in my life.

“I’d say what has linked all my teams through the years is the desire to play as a connected team, at a high pace, and to make the players reach a complex form of collective football.

“That means involving at least three players every move, to express your talent, and make people feel that when football is expressed in a collective way and with a high understanding, it’s art.”

Wenger will be given a guard of honour before the game from the Arsenal and Burnley players.

A host of legends who have played more than 100 games under Wenger – the likes of Emmanuel Petit and Martin Keown – have been invited to take part in a post-match celebration.

The game is expected to be a sell-out, and T-shirts with the words “Merci Arsene” will be left on all of the 60,000 seats in the stadium.

There have been suggestions a stand at the ground could be named after Wenger, but the club stress no decision has yet been taken on that.

Arsenal have also released a short video clip on social media thanking Wenger for his time at the club with some very personal word from the Frenchman.

#MerciArsene on twitter he says: “We want to be the club that gives someone chance who deserves it.

“To somebody who has a dream and is ready to fight for his dream.

“That’s initially the most dignified target the club can have is to influence people’s lives and give them a chance to be successful and transform dreams into reality.

Don’t be scared to be ambitious, it’s not a humiliation to have a high target and fail.

“The real humiliation is to have a target and not to give everything to reach it.”
