ANTOINE GRIEZMANN’S £86million move to Manchester United has edged closer after he reportedly told Atletico Madrid he wants to leave.
According to a Spanish radio station, the French forward, 26, has stated his desire to leave following months of speculation.
Griezmann has long been linked with a summer switch to the Red Devils, but recently revealed he is happy with the La Liga side.
Last week he claimed: “It has been a beautiful year and hopefully I can improve in every year and win trophies with this team.
“I will do everything possible. Next year we’ll have new goals and new challenges.
“First we must work on the signings and the team, and then go to San Rafael and build the same dynamic that we have been creating for a long time.”
With the transfer saga set to drag on all summer - much like the one surrounding United and Paul Pogba 12 months ago - Griezmann has cut that well short.
According to Spanish radio, he has finally revealed he wants out - with United the club way ahead in the race to land his signature.
Last week, Griezmann spectacularly claimed: “I’m ready to go.
“With Atletico have had a final and a semi final of the Champions League, we’re close, but we lack something.
“The club will see what to do, it will depend on the transfer [situation].
“I do not know if they understand, but all the players, the media, my family know that I love football to win trophies, to have these strong emotions. I want to taste [success].”
Griezmann has been at Atletico since 2014 since leaving Real Sociedad.
In his three seasons at the club, he's scored 83 times in just 160 games - including an impressive 28 goals in the 2016-17 season.
