The former WBA light-welterweight champ has not fought his crushing loss to Canelo Alvarez last year in Las Vegas.

Khan told ITV:“I think people forget that I am a boxer, with everything that’s gone on with my family and going through the divorce and everything.

“I move away and need to put that behind me and do what I do best. I’ve got my gym and I need to start spending more time in the gym.

“The main thing is getting a fight date. One thing about the British fans is they forget a lot of things that have happened in the past.

“They’ll forget what’s happening in my life now and they’ll move onto something else.”

Khan went on to apologise to his fans for all his personal issues that have been in the news over the last year regarding the issues with his family and the twitter row with his wife Faryal Makhdoom.

He added:“But I do want to apologise to the fans because a lot has gone on in my life that people probably didn’t want to read or see, but it’s my time to shine again and prove all the doubters wrong.

“And prove to myself that this is where I belong, I belong at the top in the ring, being one of the best fighters in Britain.

“The next time I fight, people will come to see what happens.

“Is Amir still the same fighter he was before after the loss against Canelo? Is he still going to have it in him after such a long time out of the ring?

“It’s a good time for me to showcase myself but at the same time it’s going to reboot my career and people are going to start believing in me again. I’m only 30!”
