Wenger had denied that a row was the reason for Sanchez to be dropped, but on Tuesday night Pires confirmed that an incident had taken place.

He said that a "bad tackle" on Sanchez made the Chilean star leave the pitch.

Sanchez was disciplined, the French legend added and that the incident was "nothing serious" and that there is "no problem".

But Pires than confirmed that Koscielny, the club's vice-captain, followed Sanchez to "talk to him".

The Gunners have been keen to downplay the incident with Wenger claiming on Monday that the reports were "completely false".

The player and manager even made a show of shaking hands at a training session on Monday morning.

But on Tuesday night Sanchez's clear frustration with his team-mates and current situation was again apparent.
