Alan Pardew set for Sheffield Wednesday job even if Carlos Carvalhal leads club to promotion
ALAN PARDEW could be on the verge of a return to management with Sheffield Wednesday – even if the club win promotion to the Premier League.
The Owls are currently battling to make it to the top flight in the Championship play-offs after drawing their semi-final first-leg at Huddersfield 0-0.

But current boss Carlos Carvalhal’s position is still on the line even if he leads them up to the Premier League this season.
Wednesday host Huddersfield in their second-leg tomorrow, with a play-off final at Wembley against either Reading or Fulham awaiting them if they get through.
But their build-up has been unsettled by the claims in the Mail that Pardew has already been lined up to take over at Hillsborough next season.
There are claims the Wednesday board have already decided to make a change of manager irrespective of whether they are promoted or not.

Carvalhal, 51, only signed a a new three-year deal to stay on as boss 12 months ago, shortly before they were beaten in the play-off final by Hull.
But at the time he claimed he did not want to sign such a long-term contract, insisting he would have been happy just to commit to a further year.

Now that may come back to haunt him as the Yorkshire club’s Thai owners look at making a change having been frustrated at the slow progress the club is making.
When Dejphon Chansiri completed his £37.5million takeover in 2015, he vowed to have the Owls back in the Premier League in two years.

He has backed Carvalhal heavily in the transfer market but at times this season it looked as though the club would even struggle to make the play-offs.
That is why Pardew has come into their sights, in the belief he has the skills and experience to take Wednesday on to another level.
The 55-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Crystal Palace last December, but his reputation is still good within the English game.
