ABERDEEN are set to beat Celtic in the race to sign Newcastle’s England World Cup hero Freddie Woodman on loan.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper is desperate for some first-team action and is awaiting for Toon chiefs to give him to green light before heading North of the Border.

Aberdeen appear to be leading the chase for the stopper, who saved a crunch last-minute penalty to help his England Under-20s win the World Cup last summer.
Dons No1 Joe Lewis is currently out injured and boss Joe Lewis has moved quickly to find a replacement.
And the promise of regular action has persuaded the young stopper to head to Pittodrie instead of Celtic Park.
The deal is expected to be announced this evening after Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Burnley.

Rafa Benitez is just waiting to finalise a move for Martin Dubravka from Sparta Prague before signing off the switch.
The 29-year-old is moving to St. James’ Park on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Woodman already has experience of the Scottish Premiership after an impressive loan spell with Kilmarnock last season.
That followed stints with Hartlepool and later Crawley in recent years.

Woodman has been named on the bench several times for the Magpies.
But he finally made his first-team Toon debut earlier this month against Luton in the FA Cup.
He revealed after his bow that he was desperate for more match action.

Woodman told NUFC TV: “I want to play football. I’m trying to get minutes on the grass. If that’s it, I’m delighted; if it’s in the next round, I’m buzzing.
“If its somewhere else on loan or anything like that, I’m willing to do that.
“I just want to play football and keep improving.”
